Hamer Park and Inglewood Oval

Hamer Park and Inglewood Oval are classified as district level reserves within the City's Public Open Space Strategy and provide for a variety of uses including organised sports, playground activities, picnicking, dog exercising, walking and other recreational activities. The reserves provide a valuable community resource, are well utilised and provide a range of diverse sporting and recreational opportunities for the community.

Over time, Hamer Park and Inglewood Oval have seen a variety of works including tree plantings, playing surface upgrade works, installation of park furniture (shelters, picnic tables and drink fountains) and the development of a dog exercise area. The reserves also include sporting and recreational amenities such as a major-level playground, cricket practice nets, tennis hit-up wall and sporting clubroom facilities.

BUILDING REDEVELOPMENT

The City wants to ensure the Hamer Park and Inglewood Oval clubroom facilities continue to meet the needs of the community and sporting clubs into the future.

Initial investigations and community consultation in 2014/2015 identified a need to:

  • Provide updated and contemporary building facilities
  • Upgrade building accessibility for people with disabilities including public toilet facilities
  • Address existing noise and parking concerns at the current Hamer Park Clubrooms location
  • Include sustainable initiatives and flexible options within the building design
  • Maintain and improve, where possible, spectator viewing for the reserves
  • Minimise impact on existing vegetation and valued green environment of the reserves.

The City has been progressing concept plans for the redevelopment of the Hamer Park Clubrooms and Moyle Pavilion (Inglewood Oval). The proposed upgrades will improve the sporting facilities with a new, relocated Hamer Park Clubroom with access from Woodsome Street and a new Moyle Pavilion in the existing location.

The proposal will also consider future improvements to sports floodlighting, path network improvements, replacement of the tennis hit-up wall and the inclusion of public toilets at Moyle Pavilion.

The proposed building site plan, concept plans, fact sheets, and floodlighting design can be found in the Document Library. Additional project information has been listed in the FAQ section.

The project remains subject to Council budgetary approval following consideration of community comments and any required amendments. The City will inform the community of any amendments to the proposed designs and location plan.
