Dianella Industrial Area

The Dianella Industrial Area and the Walter Road Local Centre is an area in transition. The industrial uses are slowly declining, while the surrounding neighbourhoods are being redeveloped into flourishing residential communities.

There have been several studies and proposed Local Planning Scheme amendments since 2009 to try and facilitate the transition of this area from Industrial to Residential and Mixed Use developments.

A Local Planning Scheme amendment has recently been approved by the West Australian Planning Commission (refer to Figure 1).

The amendment has rezoned the Dianella Industrial Area from ‘Industrial’ to ‘Local Centre’ and ‘Residential’ zones, with the residential zoning being designated a density coding of R-AC0.

What are the next steps for the Dianella Industrial Precinct and the Walter Road Local Centre?

Following the rezoning of the area and to ensure an acceptable transition, the City is undertaking a comprehensive planning exercise involving community consultation, to determine the appropriate planning framework for the Dianella Industrial Precinct and the Walter Road Local Centre.

In November 2018, the City worked with members of the community to identify key issues for the Dianella Industrial Area. The 'Vision Workshop' provided the background to the project.

The Vision Workshop presentation and consultation report is available in the Document Library to the right of the page, or by clicking here .

Upcoming Streetscape Design Options Workshop

The City is holding a 'Design Workshop' on 20 March 2019 to present the outcomes of the Vision Workshop and agree on a preferred option for Industrial Area.
